Video Game Stores
You may know that Netflix is a great way to get movies through the mail. This means you don’t have to leave your home to get them and they come one after another if you want them to. What you may not know is that there is also a very affordable service just like Netflix, but it deals with video games of all types. This is not something that works for everyone, however, and that means the video game stores out there are going to stay in business. If you like these, don’t fret too much about them disappearing.
Now that video game stores have virtual competition, they are doing the same things that video rental stores are doing. They are offering good deals on rentals if they have them, and also offering more benefits to shopping in their store. This is because they want you to get things through them that you won’t get through any type of video game store mail offer. Most of these are different in that they sell games, and any rental services can take away from those sales. That meant finding a way to make things better for the average gamer.
Most video game stores in the past have offered to buy back games at a lower price. That means once you have finished with a game, you can get cash or store credit when you take it in. However, the problem with this was often that the price that was offered for these used games by many video game stores was not a lot. That has changed. You still won’t get a fortune for them, but you can get more now than you did in the past. You can put that money towards a new game, or put it in your pocket if they offer cash.
You may also find that video game stores are the best places to get some of your game consoles and other gaming accessories. If you love Guitar Hero, you know you can get the guitar controller that you need both online and through your video game stores locally. You will get it faster, and have a quicker turnaround if there is a problem, but you may find more variety from which to choose as well. What you might not know is that some of the physical stores that deal with video games today will match the price that you find online if you show them the site offering the better price. They may not do that for you, but it never hurts to ask, and then shop around for someone else that will.

Finding Old Atari Games
When I was a kid, my parents didn’t have a lot of extra money to spend on toys and video games. I remember getting one or two gifts at Christmas and my birthday, but that was it. The rest of the year, I had to make do with hand-me-downs from siblings or cast-offs from friends. This seemed perfectly normal to me at the time; it’s only when I look back with an adult’s perspective that I realize how much my mom and dad really struggled to make ends meet.
Now that I’m on my own and making great money, a part of me can’t help but feel nostalgic about all the things I wanted as a kid. That’s why I’ve been treating myself to all the old Atari games that my parents could never afford to buy me back then. I don’t even need to have the 2600 console to play all the famous titles like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Pitfall, Missile Command, Centipede, and of course, Pong. Instead, I’m able to find most of these old Atari games in free online flash versions that I can play anytime I want. Vintage titles are hot right now, so these types of websites are popping up all over the place.
In addition to free gaming websites, there are also sites that offer old Atari games as downloads that I can play on my computer (provided that I have the right emulator installed). Once again, most of the old Atari games that I want to play are completely free, so I’m not spending anything to satisfy my inner child here!
I do have to admit, however, that I’ve been looking into the possibility of buying the 2600 or 5200 console in the near future. Then I’d be able to buy old Atari game cartridges and play them on my television set, with a joystick and all. I’ve been looking at these items at different online stores, and am surprised at how many are available. For some reason, I thought they’d be harder to find, but I’ve had no trouble at all.
Moreover, these systems aren’t as expensive as I expected. Depending on various factors, I’ve seen 2600 consoles priced at anywhere from $50-$200. Then, I can buy old Atari game cartridges for about $5 at these same places or on auction sites, and have the gaming experiences I never got to have as a kid.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m as much of an Xbox 360 enthusiast as the next person, and love all the incredible graphics and great features that modern gaming systems offer. But it’s fun to occasionally kick back with a few old Atari games and remember the simpler times.

Making Video Games
I have been making video games ever since I was a little bit kid. Making a video game used to be a pretty simple affair for me. At the time, I was programming in BASIC. Basically, all you do is structure out a storyline, come up with a flowchart, and type in commands. Although this is the basic process for making of a video game even today, it was a lot simpler when the games didn’t involve any graphics, arcade action, or anything like that. I was just doing choose your own adventure style games with simple, text-based combat. Nonetheless, my friends thought I was amazing. Making video games definitely earned me the respect of my geekier peers.
No one was surprised when I went to get a video game design degree – no one but me anyway. Although I have been an expert in how to make a video game for years, I figured that it was just a fun and amusing hobby. I could not shake the feeling that I was supposed to do something important and serious, and making video games didn’t seem like that. Then I had a long talk about it with a good friend of mine. She is the person I always go to for advice when something is wrong. She can listen and tell me the one or two things that I really need to hear. She told me something very simple – so simple that I should have realized it myself. She said that making video games was my primary passion in life, and that you can not do better for yourself than to follow your passion. I’m glad she told me that – she was right.
Right now, I am making a video game for an independent arcade game company. We make online games for the most part and make our money out of ad revenue. This is a lot of fun for me, because I have recently made video games that were more involved. After making some massive project that took years to complete, it is nice to be working on simple, user-friendly games that can be done in a month. This particular one is a new space war game, modeled after the old retro video game style. You have lasers and rockets that you can shoot at enemies, and you get points for rescuing earthlings trapped on alien planets. It’s always nice to make video games that I like to play, and this is definitely a game I could sit down and play for hours. I’m glad I decided on making video games as a career. I’ve been having a huge amount of fun, and it only seems to be getting better. It was fun to make video games as a hobby, but taking it to the next level makes it even better.

Wii Video Game System
If there is a new video game system coming out on the market, my husband tends to know about it long before I do. He loves to play games, but he rarely has the time to actually play one for more than a half an hour at a time. However, that does not stop him from dreaming about buying the newest system. Now that my daughter is six, she has suddenly taken more notice of such things as well. After a friend of ours got a Wii video game system a few weeks ago, both my husband and my daughter have stated it is about time we get one.
Unfortunately for us, the Wii video game system is out of the question at the moment, but it does look like fun. I am not one to play video games, but I do play some on my computer. After seeing what the Wii system can do, however, I think this is one that I could live with, and might even try to use. That would give my daughter something active to do, and would stop my husband from looking from me to his Playstation 2 while scowling. Apparently, that is his way of letting me know that the Wii video game system would be a welcome addition to our home.
The whole thing started with my friend’s daughter having a fit because she could not get the Wii video game system to work. The problem was not so much the system, but that the little girl was up way too late in the evening. I went in to help her out, and found my daughter staring at the console with interest. Apparently they had some game play in before this happened. I got it started for her again, and then watched as they played the Wii video game system. I have to say I was intrigued.
My husband came to pick us up later and spotted the Wii video game system. He knew about them and had seen them in the store, but had never played one. It was as if he had spotted gold. He picked up the controller and played with it. As it was late, I had to try to take it away from him, but he wasn’t having any part of that. In the end, he only played with the Wii video game system for a half an hour, but he vowed to come back and play it again.
The Wii video game system is much like the older game consoles in that it plays games, but it can do so in a different way. Those that are not familiar with it may be fascinated to see the new technology that it has and uses. It has controllers that can work with the natural motion of the body. You can play tennis by actually swinging the controller of the Wii video game system through the air. There are many great motion games just like that which you can get for the gaming system.
